The Victorian Defence and Space Network presents an event titled Defence Trade Controls This event will provide an overview of the Defence Trade Controls Amendment Bill which was introduced to Federal Parliament on 30 November 2023. This bill seeks to strengthen Australia’s defence export control framework to harness the benefits of AUKUS. However, it is important defence industry, and particularly SMEs, are aware of the potential implications from this proposed legislative change.

Ms Kylie Wright, Assistant Secretary Defence Industry from the Department of Defence, will provide an overview of the bill and potential changes to the defence export control framework. While the frameworks for AUKUS partners are still being developed, it is essential that Australian defence industry begin considering potential implications that may be relevant to your business circumstances. This is a compelling rationale for attendance.

Defence industry that is seeking to participate in global supply chain programs associated with AUKUS should register and attend the event. This event will also incorporate other agencies that can assist in supporting defence industry engagement into global markets.

Note that registrations will close 1 week prior to the event, (16th of April, 5pm AEST). The event is on Tuesday the 23rd April, 2.00pm - 5.30pm at the Investment Centre Victoria (Level 46, 55 Collins Street, Melbourne VIC 3000).
